The Melanoma Research Foundation to host the Miami Miles for Melanoma 5K

Miami, FL (January 23, 2025) – The Melanoma Research Foundation (MRF) is thrilled to announce the next event in its annual Miles for Melanoma nationwide 5K program, bringing together local melanoma patients, supporters, care partners and thrivers. This year we will be hosting our annual Miami event on Sunday, February 9, 2025 at Zoo Miami at 7:00 AM ET. All registered participants will also have all-day access to enjoy and explore the zoo following the event.
We are excited to share that Local Sponsor, DermaSensor, will be hosting on-site and complimentary skin screenings on event day performed by Primary Physician, Kiran Chatha, MD! DermaSensor Inc. is a health technology company designing non-invasive tools to better equip primary care providers for skin cancer checks. The DermaSensor device has been awarded Breakthrough Device Designation by the FDA and is the first FDA-cleared or approved skin cancer detection device specifically designed for use by primary care providers. The device assists primary care physicians and other on-label healthcare providers in deciding whether to refer a patient to a dermatologist. It’s important to note that the DermaSensor device is not intended for use by dermatologists but rather by physicians who are not skin cancer experts.

The 5K walk/race will bring together the Miami-area melanoma community with a goal of raising $40,000 in support of critical melanoma research.
In addition to raising essential funds to support melanoma research, this event helps elevate public awareness around early detection and prevention of cutaneous melanoma and educate about rare melanoma subtypes. The Miles for Melanoma program also highlights the importance of sun safety and scheduling annual dermatological skin checks.
The MRF team is thrilled to welcome a wide range of local presenting and national sponsors to the Miami event this February. Local sponsors include Ciocca Dermatology, Coolibar, Derm360, DermaSensor, Moffitt Cancer Center and One Change. Our National Sponsor and Prevention Partner is Neutrogena.
All in-person and registered participants will receive our 2025 Miles for Melanoma Coolibar UPF50+ shirt. To register for this year’s event, click here. Regular rate registration will close on Thursday, February 6 at 11:59 pm ET.
