The Melanoma Research Foundation to host the Fort Myers Miles for Melanoma 5K
Fort Myers, FL (December 5, 2024) – The Melanoma Research Foundation (MRF) is thrilled to announce the next event in its annual Miles for Melanoma nationwide 5K program, bringing together local melanoma patients, supporters, care partners and thrivers. This year we will be hosting our annual Fort Myers event on Saturday, December 14, 2024 at Jet Blue Park at 7:00 AM ET. Exciting news! Local Presenting Sponsor, Dermatology Solutions, will be providing on-site and complimentary skin screenings so don’t forget to stop by their tent on event day.
We are also thrilled to announce that Kellie Burns, Weekend Anchor at WBBH-NBC2, will be joining us on event day as our event emcee! Kellie has been keeping viewers informed at the anchor desk in the Fort Myers – Naples television market for more than 31 years. Her journey of journalistic excellence began in 1994 at WBBH, climbing the ranks from a dedicated reporter as Collier County Bureau Chief, to weekend anchor, to become one of the primary news anchors within two years.
The 5K walk/run will bring together the Fort Myers melanoma community with a goal of raising $40,000 in support of critical melanoma research.
In addition to raising essential funds to support melanoma research, this event helps elevate public awareness around early detection and prevention of cutaneous melanoma and educate about rare melanoma subtypes. The Miles for Melanoma program also highlights the importance of sun safety and scheduling annual dermatological skin checks.
The MRF team is thrilled to welcome a wide range of local presenting and national sponsors to the Fort Myers event this December. Our local presenting sponsor this year is Dermatology Solutions.
