This position will be responsible for assisting the Event Managers with community outreach, engagement and logistics for the Miles for Melanoma 5k program.


Education & Experience.

  • Excellent customer service skills including verbal, written and interpersonal communication
  • Detail-oriented and strong organizational skills with ability to multi-task
  • Mission-driven
  • Proficient in the Microsoft Office suite
  • Availability of 10-24 hours/week
  • Undergraduate or master’s student pursuing a degree in Marketing, Communications, Hospitality, Business or another related field

Overview.

The Melanoma Research Foundation (MRF) is seeking a Development Intern to support the their nationwide Miles for Melanoma 5K run/walk fundraising program. This position will be responsible for assisting the Event Managers with community outreach, engagement and logistics for the Miles for Melanoma 5k program. This intern will report to the Development Manager for the Miles for Melanoma 5k team. The internship is not paid but can be used for class credit and/or employment experience.

 

This internship will be based upon 10-24 hours of work per week. This will be an unpaid, in-person internship based in Washington, DC; a hybrid work environment may be accommodated if needed.

Miles for Melanoma Development Intern

Location.

Core Responsibilities.

Development:

  • Solicit in-kind donations (gift cards, products, etc.) from vendors/businesses in the community and nationwide
  • Conduct community outreach to past event participants and explore new recruitment channels and strategies
  • Support the Miles for Melanoma team with post-event stewardship to sponsors, vendors and top fundraisers
  • Collaborate with the Miles for Melanoma team on unique concepts for driving participation and event engagement

Events:

  • Assist with organizing and preparing event materials for Miles for Melanoma events including but not limited to event toolkits and marketing materials
  • Aid the Event Logistics Coordinator by conducting research of event locations for local partnerships with food and beverage businesses, event vendors, future event locations etc.
  • Create marketing collateral relating to events such as social media graphics, flyers and save the date postcards

Administrative:

  • Assist with Miles for Melanoma event mailings and maintaining a current mailing list
  • Support the Miles for Melanoma team with inquiries in the Miles for Melanoma email inbox, Miles for Melanoma phone line, and main MRF phone line. Ensure timely and professional customer service for all messaging
  • Aid the Miles for Melanoma team in projects related to CRM software
