They are not intended to be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties and skills required of personnel so classified.   JOB SUMMARY: The Melanoma Research Foundation (MRF) is seeking an Education Intern to support the Education Department during the Fall 2026 semester. This internship offers a unique opportunity for a student interested in public health, patient education, or health communications to gain hands-on experience at a national non-profit organization. The intern will support the development and delivery of patient and caregiver education, events, community outreach initiatives, and digital resources that help patients, caregivers, healthcare professionals, and the public make informed decisions about melanoma prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship. Projects may include supporting SunAWARE™, the MRF’s national K–5 sun safety education program, prevention initiatives, rural outreach efforts, patient education materials, educational webinars, and patient and caregiver symposia. This position reports to the Senior Education Program Manager. UNPAID INTERNSHIP, FOR ACADEMIC CREDIT: This internship is designed to be completed for academic credit. Compensation is not provided.

Core Responsibilities.

  • Review educational content including but not limited to Animated Melanoma Patient videos, webinars, literature, website content, etc.
  • Support planning and execution of patient symposia, conferences and educational events from start to finish
  • Manage shipping and inventory tracking for educational materials
  • Assist with packing, shipping and returns for all event materials, including signage, name tags, printed collateral, and promotional items
  • Assist with pre- and post-event logistics for educational programming
  • Draft social media content and summaries from events to be communicated out to the community
  • Proof-reading educational materials and editing support as needed
  • Provide general administrative support to the Education Team as needed

Requirements & Qualifications.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: 

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program in public health, nonprofit management, health communications, education, or a related field. 
  • Available to work approximately 20-40 hours per week in a hybrid environment. 
  • Ability to work in the Washington, DC office two days per week (Mon and Wed). 
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines. 
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. 
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment. 
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and familiarity with platforms such as Canva, Zoom, SurveyMonkey, and social media. 
  • Previous nonprofit, healthcare, or internship experience is preferred but not required.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:  By the conclusion of this internship, the student will be able to:

  • Develop an understanding of how a national nonprofit patient advocacy organization designs, implements, and evaluates patient education programs. 
  • Gain practical experience planning educational events, including patient symposia, webinars, and community outreach initiatives. 
  • Learn how evidence-based educational resources are developed, reviewed, and disseminated for patients, caregivers, and healthcare professionals. 
  • Gain experience supporting national prevention efforts, including the SunAWARE™ K–5 sun safety education program and melanoma prevention campaigns. 
  • Learn how nonprofit organizations collaborate with healthcare professionals, schools, advocacy organizations, and community partners to improve public health. 
  • Strengthen professional skills in project management, teamwork, communication, and nonprofit program administration.
