The Military and Melanoma

Representing the Melanoma Research Foundation, Martin A. Weinstock, M.D., Ph.D., Professor of Dermatology and Community Health at Brown University Alpert Medical School testified on May 20 in front of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense to request more support for melanoma research.  With thousands of U.S. Army, National Guard, Coast Guard, Air Force and Marine personnel currently stationed in sun-intense locales like Iraq and Afghanistan, military service men and women face the potential for a long-term risk of melanoma.  Increased funding will support efforts to find better treatments for people with melanoma, including those who serve our nation with military service.
