Melanoma thriver and San Diego feature reporter, joins the battle to end melanoma at upcoming 5K.

San Diego, CA (September 29, 2022) The Melanoma Research Foundation (MRF) is thrilled to announce that Jeff Zevely, feature reporter of CBS 8 and CW San Diego, will serve as the Opening Ceremonies emcee of the San Diego Miles for Melanoma 5K, held Saturday, October 8th, at De Anza Cove Park, 7:30 AM PT.

The nationwide annual 5K event tours the country to celebrate local melanoma patients, thrivers and caregivers. This year, the San Diego melanoma community will unite to raise over $40,000 in support of critical melanoma research. The MRF is humbled to announce that San Diego has exceeded their goal by almost 60%, raising $60,000 to date.

Zevely is a feature reporter for CBS 8 and CW San Diego & is currently celebrating his 20th year with KFMB TV. The San Diego native has been married to his wife Heather, a registered nurse, since 2000. Three years ago, Heather urged Jeff to get a skin exam, where it was discovered that he had melanoma. Thankfully, Jeff was able to have the melanoma fully removed, and has made a full recovery.

DermTech CEO, John Dobak, MD will also present during the upcoming event. As a leading genomics company in dermatology and Miles for Melanoma local presenting sponsor, Dobak proudly supports the MRF, stating—

“We encourage everyone – whether you’re a survivor, caregiver or member of the medical community – to get involved in the Miles for Melanoma event series to support important research, education and advocacy initiatives. With the tools to help end deaths from melanoma, we can save lives together.”

In addition to raising essential funds to support melanoma research, this event helps elevate public awareness around early detection and prevention of cutaneous melanoma and rare melanoma subtypes. The Miles for Melanoma program also highlights the importance of sun safety and scheduling annual dermatological skin checks. Local presenting sponsor, Alastin Skincare will also be on-site to provide complimentary skin screenings.

The MRF is pleased to welcome a wide range of local presenting and national sponsors to San Diego including; Alastin Skincare, Ascentage Pharma, Castle BioSciences, DermTech, HUYABIO International, Novartis and Oncosec Immunotherapies. National sponsors include Neutrogena, Coolibar and Pfizer.
