Melanoma Research Foundation Awarded GuideStar Platinum Seal of Transparency

The Melanoma Research Foundation (MRF), the largest independent organization devoted to melanoma, has earned a Platinum Seal of Transparency, the highest level of recognition offered by GuideStar, the world’s largest source of nonprofit information. By sharing metrics that showcase the progress the MRF is making toward its mission with a commitment to transparency and responsible stewardship of its resources, the GuideStar Platinum Seal helps donors move beyond simplistic and outdated ways of nonprofit evaluation such as overhead ratios and tax filings.

“Since our founding by a melanoma patient in 1996, the MRF has been supported by the generosity of our donors. Our commitment to transparency is imperative when it comes to how our donors’ contributions are used to further our mission and the steps we take as responsible stewards of these gifts,” said Susan Vogel, the MRF’s Chief Development Officer. “As we celebrate 25 years of dedicated service to the melanoma community, the recognition from GuideStar will continue to drive our work into the next 25 years.”

To reach the Platinum level, the MRF submitted extensive information to its Nonprofit Profile on GuideStar: basic contact and organizational information; in-depth financial information; qualitative information about goals, strategies and capabilities; and quantitative data about results and progress toward its mission. By voluntarily disclosing this information, the MRF has demonstrated its strong commitment to transparency and to providing donors and funders meaningful data to evaluate the MRF’s work.

“By sharing both qualitative and quantitative metrics about the MRF and how we work towards our mission to eradicate melanoma, we’re proud to celebrate the successes of our past while looking ahead to the promise of our future,” said Kyleigh LiPira, MRF CEO. “We’re proud to earn the GuideStar Platinum Seal of Transparency to clearly communicate our organization’s dedication the more than 1.3 million Americans living with melanoma and that our generous donors and funders can give with confidence to support this community.”

When you support the Melanoma Research Foundation, you can give with confidence and know that your gift will be used to advance our mission to eradicate melanoma. In honor of the MRF’s 25th Anniversary and Melanoma Awareness Month, please consider a tax-deductible gift today:

About GuideStar Nonprofit Profiles

The GuideStar database contains a profile for every tax-exempt nonprofit registered with the IRS. GuideStar encourages every nonprofit to claim and update its profile at no cost to the organization. Updating allows nonprofits to share a wealth of up-to-date information with the more than 8 million people who visit GuideStar to learn more about nonprofit organizations each year. Updating also allows nonprofits to share information with the more than 200 philanthropic websites and applications that are powered by GuideStar data. To reach a given participation level, organizations need to complete all required fields for that participation level. The GuideStar participation levels, acknowledged as symbols of transparency in the nonprofit sector, are displayed on all updated participants’ profiles in the GuideStar database.
