Bill Proposes Offering Exclusivity For Novel Drug Co-Development

On September 21, Members of Congress Brian Bilbray (R-CA), Carolyn Maloney (D-NY), and Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) introduced a piece of legislation that has the potential to impact thousands of people affected by melanoma. The bill, H.R.6502, the Life-Threatening Diseases Compassion Through Combination Therapy Act of 2012, seeks to incentivize biopharmaceutical companies to make and test combination therapies, which have shown the greatest promise in treating melanoma.

MRF’s Executive Director Tim Turnham was interviewed by a reporter at The Pink Sheet about the recently introduced legislation. The article provides a great overview of the proposed legislation and helps illustrate the importance of the bill for people with life-threatening diseases, such as melanoma.
