JOB SUMMARY: The Development Coordinator for Community Events is an organized, creative, donor-focused professional who is passionate about the Foundation’s mission to eradicate melanoma. The manager works with donors, volunteers, vendors and staff to support and drive revenue for key programs and campaigns. The manager will manage and grow the CommUNITY fundraising program, assist on Signature Events and work with donors to create both memorial and tribute campaigns. The Manager will report to the Development Officer (Galas) but work closely with multiple members of the development team.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Indicates the action or outcomes required to fulfill each major responsibility of the position.
Fundraising (50%):
- Solicit new CommUNITY fundraisers and steward existing donors through annual stewardship plans and touchpoints.
- Coordinate and partner with local and national businesses to host one-time CommUNITY Fundraising events
- Raise $300,000 through the CommUNITY Fundraising program.
- Support the Foundation’s signature events, including but not limited to logistics, on-site support and auction and in-kind donation outreach.
- Manage the organization’s online Bonfire merchandise store to promote current campaign product lines and coordinate with the communications team to meet annual revenue goals
- Work with donors to create tribute and memorial giving campaigns
- Promote the Double the Donation matching gift program
- Support and manage annual stewardship for volunteers and CommUNITY events
- Track and adhere to the board-approved CommUNITY budget
- Manage annual fundraising renewals such as the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC).
- Collaborate with Gala Development Officer to share best practices and support cross-team fundraising, committee management and volunteer strategy
- Prioritize donor discovery and secure contacts for at least 25+ potential prospects to support signature events and the Gala series
- Other duties as assigned.
Administrative (50%):
- Manage organization-wide volunteer program and triage volunteer requests
- Coordinate internal mailings and distribution of materials for the CommUNITY Fundraising program and the national Gala series
- Partner with the communications team on CommUNITY Fundraising/signature events marketing assets
- Manage and execute CommUNITY and signature event-related shipments
- Maintain/triage email and phone communications for the Development department.
- Respond to calls on the main donation line and route them to specific team members as needed.
- Update donor records in Raiser’s Edge (RE) to maintain accuracy of donor database with list management efforts to include returned mail.
- Recruit, hire, train and oversee Development Events Intern, and other Development-related interns as needed.
- Management and inventory of CommUNITY Fundraising resources and materials.
- Attend and staff CommUNITY Fundraisers and additional development events as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Reflects the specific competencies required for job performance.
- 1-3 years of development or event experience
- High attention to detail, extremely organized and the ability to multi-task multiple projects at one time.
- Team-player with a positive attitude who can effectively work with MRF staff and multiple constituents.
- Experience with Microsoft office suite, integrated documentation and virtual communication tools.
- Familiarity with donor databases and online processors, preferred (Raiser’s Edge, JustGiving, Givergy, GiveSmart and RunSignUp)
- Flexible and able to multi-task multiple projects
- Excellent writing and oral communication skills
- Outstanding customer service.
- Up to 25% travel during peak event season (spring/fall).
- The position is based in Washington, DC with a hybrid work environment.
EDUCATION:
- 4 Year degree or equivalent work experience.
