The Melanoma Research Foundation (MRF) is seeking a Development Events/Communications Intern to support the Development Department with their nationwide fundraising events, Miles for Melanoma 5K run/walk program and Galas and support the Communication Department with developing content for the MRF social media channels and assist with other communication and marketing projects.
Some support may be required for CommUNITY Fundraisers. This intern will report to the Development Coordinator and the Development Marketing Coordinator. The internship is not paid but can be used for class credit and/or employment experience.
This internship will be based upon 10-20 hours of work per week. This will be an unpaid, in-person internship based in Washington, DC for Summer 2025.
Requirements and Qualifications:
- Excellent customer service skills including verbal, written and interpersonal communication
- Detail-oriented and strong organizational skills with ability to multi-task
- Strong graphic design skills (Canva, Adobe, InDesign, Photoshop)
- Strong writing/editing skills are required
- Proficient in the Microsoft Office suite
- Availability of 10-20 hours/week
- Undergraduate student pursuing a degree in Marketing, Communications or another related field
- This position is required onsite at our Washington, DC office on Monday and Wednesday during normal business hours
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Solicit in-kind donations (gift cards, products, etc.) from vendors/businesses in the community and nationwide
- Conduct community outreach to past event participants and explore new recruitment channels and strategies
- Collaborate with the Development Department on unique concepts for driving participation and event engagement
- Assist with organizing and preparing event materials for Miles for Melanoma, Gala and CommUNITY Fundraising programs including but not limited to event toolkits and marketing materials
- Create marketing collateral relating to Developments events such as social media graphics, flyers and save the date postcards
- Assist with content creation, production and editing for video content (reels) to be included on the MRF’s TikTok and Instagram channels
- Assist the Development and Social Media Marketing Coordinator with updating a patient testimonial library and guide.
- Assist in designing in-house social media graphics using Adobe Creative Cloud and/or Canva for our main MRF social media channels
- Other relevant duties as assigned
