Hey Guys!

I’m new to this site. so glad I found this page, it has already been so helpful. I’m undiagnosed, waiting to get into a dermatologist. My GP has sent my referral as urgent so I’m hoping to be seen fast.

My question is with melanoma in Situ. Is there any way of telling a mole is in Situ just by looking? Like do they normally present lighter than a more invasive melanoma? Or is the only way of telling through biopsy.

Thanks guys

Welcome, although sorry you have to join us here! Weekends are kind of quiet, and you'll get more response next week. However, I can answer your question. The only way to determine if a lesion is melanoma (in situ or otherwise) is through a biopsy. If your GP is suspicious of melanoma, please ask your dermatologist to perform a punch biopsy -- that is the only way to get a truly accurate depth. Let us know how it goes!

Strength and Courage,

Hello AThomson20, welcome to our club, hopefully you dont have Melanoma, like sister Susan just said, a good Biopsy will reveal & confirm any disease, and like Susan mentioned, a "Punch" style biopsy (kinda like a Cheese sampler haha) are great at "Depth" of a disease (along with scans) the deeper the disease the more odds of it spreading by hitching a ride on our many, many Lymphatic Highways & Biways, Veins etc...keep us posted, chances are it will be something else and we will never hear from you again, it happens here at MRF, folks check in then check right out due to no evidence of Melanoma...

Melanoma Will Not Beat Me or my MRF Family!
