Good morning. I had surgery yesterday to remove multiple lumps which had appeared over the last few weeks in my neck by my scar from the previous selective neck dissection. The fine needle biopsy had failed to provide a good enough sample. The unofficial result from the doctor: “obviously melanoma. clusters of mel cells in soft tissue”. Official results next week. Has anyone experienced this? Keep up the fight, my friends.

Sister Cindy! Glad you got that out of the way, dont know if you read my earlier post when you first explained of the needle biopsy DISASTER, i was pretty pissed but now im glad you got it done "another" way by an actual surgeon who could probably do surgerys blind folded! Was he/she an Oncology Surgeon?...but anyways, to answer your question, iv had a few surgerys without a biopsy before hand, all came back Melanoma, my surgeon is a firm believer that once a patient is staged at 3b all growths that occur near the fiist primary will 95% be melanoma & she doesnt like ordering biopsys, (needle and punch) that can "disrupt" tumors (break off Mel cells into blood stream) so she likes to just take it out (WLE) THEN send to pathology, safer that way & i was always behind her on that! She was ok with Shave bio's when i had raised Ulcerated types (broke thru skin) , twice iv had those, all others have been deep solid types, "Round" ball type tumors....well, lets hope for the best your Pathology report comes back ok, fingers crossed Cindy! Ya never know! Iv witnessed miracles!

Hi, Mike! I did read your earlier post and I always appreciate your comments. I did not even think about the needle biopsy disrupting the tumor! No more needle biopsies for this old gal! I hope you are having a great weekend.

Hi Cindy, let me ad to the "exception" of "needed" Needle Biopsys (Fine Aspersion type) you may actually need to have one if a possible "lesion" or concern lights up in yer scan, in areas like your Lungs and other deep organs, even muscle tissue...its bitter sweet gettin those needle bios, and i totally get what my Onco Surgeons belief is about them...

I see your point. Just kinda have to do the needle biopsy in the situations you mentioned. Good to know. Thanks!

Hi
Mine has been similar had multiple recurrences at original site and all have been melanoma. Also never bother with biopsies and just have it removed. I have even moved on with my Dr and attend her surgery clinics only. I point out what I’m worried about and she cuts them out 5 mins later
Best thing is to get it removed and then you will stop worrying about it
Best wishes
Mark

That's what I have. That's what it started with, too, which seems strange. Only melanoma in soft tissue, not on skin for me.
