Had 12 day staycation in the hospital for a abscess that within 20 hours went from I Feel something to a grapefruit. The day before had a short stint in the ER due to rectal bleeding, but was discharged a few hours later. Fast forward the next morning and the most terrible pain in the ass literally and a 103.5 fever.
An ambulance ride to the hospital because the overall sick feeling.
The news was septic and surgery to remove the abscess the following morning.
Due to all the chronic issues from the immunotherapy treatment such as fatigue, diarrhea and swelling (not to mention the location of the wound and fear of diarrhea getting in it - five different house doctors were assigned to me and I was placed in isolation because of. “Potential C Diff.” The five doctor s were treating each ailment as a new thing and not in correlation to the cancer/treatment. The discharge was to a long term care facility- and I found out that my regular oncologist as well as my primary would not have access to me. Had to fight like hell to go home with home health. Was placed on TPN for bowel rest for two weeks.
My surgeon told me the day of surgery to get the hell out or I would be in hospital jail for those very reasons above.
Home now, feeling better - not strong at all and now maintenance is off the table -
Not sure what is next other than weaning off TPN.

I'm having a similar staycation! Although it's only after my second therapy session! Pretty sure they give me a third I'd be heading down the same path that your dad has gone so I'm putting the brakes on the it be at this point!

I really appreciate you posting! Your dad and my symptoms are so similar his experience has given me a peek into what I might expect after the third session so I'm just simply not going there! So sorry that he responded the way he did!

Good luck to you

Good Morning Makes Mike! I am the daughter of the Carlsbad 317, when sharing information on the site it is a retell with his input. I try to keep in general, but when he wants to include something specific I do - and incidently in his voice as I write what he says.
To sum it up-
Two trips to the ER back to back- first was bleeding from the booty- nothing could be found wrong so discharged.
Following day another visit because an overall sick feeling.
He was septic with booty abscess right inside the booty cheek with surgical removal. Worst place due to liquid diarrhea and the challenge of keeping it bandaged.
Sever Toxicity due to Ipi/Nivo stopped after 3, with 20 day radiation. Been off Ipi/Nivo since June but the liquid diarrhea has not stopped.
Staycation in hospital extended due to in house docs treating chronic side effects
Of immunotherapy and not just the abscess wound.
Due to chronic issues from Ipi/nivo had to fight as a family for discharge home instead of LTC.
Finally made it out and adding to the above post learned getting home care is challenging due to the many docs from the hospital sending orders or lack of.
Currently on 80 mg of steroids a day to help control diarrhea until wound heals.
Hope this clarifies-!
Enjoy your stay with you brothers.

Hi Hanlon! Ok, that makes sense! Haha..im sure im last to know that "you" write on behalf of Carlsbad like in real time, like a hired writer who types as the Authors talented mind throws forth words of a great read! Im following you now...
Boy, that abcess could really be somewhere else! I to have something growing "right there" near the ol' "gate", door, " hatch" or what mind you the Anus, ill bring it up to the oncologist Thursday, im 100% sure its Melanoma, its probably spread from my Sigmoid (intestine) by now, my Sigmoid has alread been biopsied & confirmed Mel over a month now, 2 months....thats gotta be tough though, "Mud Butt" is not fun, im starting to have issues due to the tumor almost closing up my Sigmoid area, beginning signs is diarrhea when tumor startes to clog completely...no fun no fun...prayers to all of us! Including you, my loving wife Hillary, and all the folks who take care of us when were not in the hospital...

Melanoma just sucks and that is coming from the daughter! A tough damn road and it all takes place so fast and out of nowhere.
Praying for you- don’t let to much time go by before you get the booty checked- being septic is no fun for the patient or caregivers!
Take care - praying for you - keep us posted!
Btw, when I first made this account the threads were looking for you- you had taken a small break from posting. From reading your responses to others and to me- can see why people missed you.
It’s nice to have people such as Ed and Celeste and yourself that make this site what it is for the new and not so new.
